Nationals Update

June 29, 2009 - Technical Update - Per the Nr 1 April 2009 FIG Newsletter, the skill of pike-on-pike (100, p.1) is devalued from a value 8 to value 6. See page 100 in the Tables of Difficulty. Coaches must plan to adjust difficulty to account for the additional two values now missing if this skill is in the routine. A copy of the TU and FIG NR 1 is in each of your JO coach's packets.
June 29, 2009 - JO Closing Party - J.O. Nationals Closing Party - All participants, families and friends are invited to join us for a fun-filled evening of food and dancing under the Rotunda in the Great River Room at the Crowne Plaza on Thursday, July 16 from 7-midnight. Plan to attend and socialize with friends old and new and wrap up what is sure to be a great week at J.O. National Championships. There will be a short 15-minute awards presentation for those athletes that stood out at J.O. National Championships. Tickets are still available and may be purchased for $35.00 at Accreditation in the Crowne Plaza (See Elizabeth Millard) until July 12.
June 29, 2009 - Athlete Choir - Back by popular demand is the Athlete Choir. All athletes are welcome to sing the National Anthem during Opening Ceremonies on Sunday, July 12. If you have athletes that would like to participate, notify Elizabeth Millard at accreditation. Practice times are on the master schedule provided to each of you in your coaches' packets.
June 29, 2009 - Junior & Senior National Team Selection Procedures - To vie for a spot on the 2009-2010 Junior National Team (11-16 & 12-19) and Senior National Team, athletes must compete at the 2009 Visa Championships in Dallas, TX. Athletes must sign and submit the appropriate selection procedures for the team. Selection Procedures are due at the accreditation office for the 2009 Visa Championships. Selection Procedures will be available for download off the USA Gymnastics website shortly.
June 29, 2009 - Door Decoration Contest - Again in 2009, a door-decorating contest will take place at the 2009 JO National Championships. Athletes are encouraged to decorate their hotel room doors in the spirit of the event. The best door decoration is chosen by the Event Staff and announced at the 2009 Closing Party on Thursday, July 16.
June 29, 2009 - Elite Routine - Due to a tight schedule at the 2009 Freedom Cup and JO Championships, the Elite Routine will be performed at the 2009 Visa Championships in Dallas, TX. Elite athletes will have time to practice the routine at the JO Championships. I am proposing the elite routine is performed at the artistic venue on the final night of competition. It should be a packed-arena!
