Glenn Hymer and Friends, Muscle Beach Acrobats

Father of Lorna Spellman, Boerne Gymnastics Owner

These pictures from June, 1950 are from Bemidvi State Teachers College in Bedmidvi, Minn. Lorna's family moved to Los Angelos, CA where Lorna did acrobatics as a kid. She thought that family acro was the normal way of life. Coincidentally, in the 6th photo below of the 3 High, the middle is Eric Hughes. Dr. Eric Hughes was the men's gymnastics coach at the University of Washington in 1978 when Alex Douglas was a "gym bum". It was Dr. Hughes that encouraged Alex to perform in the Music Hall Follies, which put him on the road to acrobatics instead of men's gymnastics. In the 8th photo below, they are performing a Trampoline Clown Act. Glenn's coach was Larry Griswald, co-designer with George Nissan of the trampoline.
