Streaming Videos

The videos are streaming videos in WMF format. When you click on the links your Media Player, or default streaming video program, will launch. Since these are digital copies of old VHS tapes, some videos are of poor quality. Those old routines are presented for historical interest. Some routines are digital copies ripped from DVDs. Full meets are available from Mr. Video, who has been taping the USSA/USAG Acro Nationals for many years. Because the online archive has continued to grow, videos are now found under categories below. Click on the heading and that page with those videos will be displayed.

JO Routines

The JO Routines are from the Region 3 Championships in Dallas, 2005, as well as other meets to fill out the program. The routines are posted online to give kids and coaches new to the sport a sense of how the skills progress. Levels 4-7 are combined routines and change very little. Level 8-10 athletes have two routines, balance and dynamic, and many changes occur each year. Since these routines are older, they still give an idea of what the Junior Olympic program is like.

History

American acrobatic competition began in the 1970's, whereas international acrobatic competition began much earlier. The videos presented here are American athletes through the years. Because they are coming from VHS tapes 30 years old, the quality leaves much to be desired. However, preserving these routines in an archive is worth seeing the growth of the industry. What was done then has no comparison to what is done today. Skills that I performed as an Elite then are no better than Level 9 today. Acrobatics continues to get better as new generation of coaches and athletes build upon the past.

Shows

Acrobatics is used for entertainment professionally and exhibitionally. Your imagination is your only limitation for using acrobatics in shows. Group Gymnastics and th Gymnaestrada have been exploring this for years in the gymnastics community. Building new programs and providing performance opportunities for competitive athletes is a natural use of exhibition acrobatics. Provided here is a small sampling of possibilities.

Cheerleading

The cheer leading industry has been a participant of acrobatic movement for decades. Regrettably, due to a lack of proper training, cheerleading today is extremely watered down. On this site, however, are examples of routines performed in the hey day of great acrobatic cheerleading - the 1980's. There were some incredible routines that demonstrate great creativity for acrobatic dances in large groups.

Group Gymnastics

The Gymnaestrada has been demonstrating acrobatic gymnastics in large groups for decades. All involved will benefit from seeing group gymnastics routines for new ideas.

Acrobatic Dance

Dance is an integral part of Acrobatic Gymnastics. It is beneficial to all that great dances are watched to see how to integrate dance and acrobatics together.
